Laundry is one of those endless chores… whether a nook in the basement (me!) or a luxury space, we’ve put together a few quick tips to make this an eco-friendly space in your home.

Starting with the laundry detergent makes sense because it’s the backbone of the job! A good detergent needs to be eco-friendly for both my skin and the planet, the packaging needs to be sustainable, and of course it needs to WORK! I’ve read endless articles about which detergents are safe. As far as ingredients a lot of the information and recommendations I was finding seemed contradictory as people focused on different aspects of the detergents. I tried DIY but always ran out at the most inconvenient times, so laundry would pile up even more. Thankfully at a handmade event several years back I ran into Maggie from Brighton Wool & Honey. They make their own laundry soap with safe ingredients that come in glass mason jars with a wooden scoop (If you’re local you can even get your jar refilled!)
The best part- it has over 100 five-star reviews, it really works! So, this was step one in my eco-friendly make-over!
2. Maggie also introduced me to the wonderful world of wool dryer balls. This is probably my favorite tip because the benefits are endless! They replace dryer sheets (which are loaded with chemicals!), they reduce drying time while also reducing wrinkles and static and can be reused for years! This also leads me to my next eco tip for you. Add a spritz or two of one of our Peripeti Home room sprays to add a little fragrance to your dryer load without all the chemicals!
3. Peripeti Room Sprays are great spritzed on wool dryer balls or a dry cloth to spruce up the fragrance in a load of laundry. I even enjoy changing up the fragrance depending on the load. I love using a Lavender Lilac for sheets and towels and whatever my current favorite scent is for our clothes (oftentimes that’s Rosemary Tangerine). A customer has even shared that they have each of their kids pick a scent and when they do their own laundry they get to use their scent, giving them ownership over their chore.
4. Of course we can’t give eco-friendly laundry tips without addressing the space as a whole (that’s kind of our thing!) Walking into a fresh and clean space when you have loads of dirty laundry can help get you in the right mindset to complete the task ahead.
